If only affiliates would follow the basic rules & principles of business they would achieve greater success instead of struggling to make a few measly dollars...

Why Do So Many Affilates Continually Refuse to Make Money?

Following are the main reasons why so many affiliates fail to make decent money with affiliate programs.

  1. Niche Market

    They spend ages looking for a niche offer

    If you know a (high demand) niche use that knowledge and if the competition is low you will have discovered a real gem - that is what is called a niche!

    Yes this could be a time wasting & money wasting mistake - to make money with affiliate marketing rather look at verticals that have heavy demand.

    Once you've identified one you can always selcet a niche within that vertical.

    The point here is that it is very difficult to make good money selling stuff for which there doesn't exist sufficient demand.

  2. Product or Service

    They choose the wrong type of product.

    Products & services that sell are those that satisfy the deep rooted needs of the buyer.

    Just think of what people really want & what needs they need to satisfy.

    For instance people are always wanting to make money or look better or feel better...

  3. Merchant

    They Choose the Wrong Merchant

    You need to go with merchants that have a good landing & checkout page with compelling sales copy - not filled with over hyped sales pitch rubbish.

    Also affiliates need to get their visitors off their pages and on to the merchant's checkout pages as fast as possible.

    Just a note on the pros & cons of having your own landing pages as opposed to sending the buyer directly to the merchant's sales page.

    The advantages of sending the client directly to the merchant's site are;

    • less clicks for the customer
    • easier to implement
    • landing page is already optimized


    The advantages of sending the client to your site's landing page & pre-selling them first are;

    • you can create your own brand - your own website, domain, search engine integrity etc.
    • you are more able to track the keyword analysis & PPC effectiveness
    • you have more control in terms of pre-selling your site visitor & making them jump through the hoops

    Therefore it is difficult to make a judgement on whether landing pages are good or bad - it really depends on your set of circumstances & requirements.

    For someone creating a long term business I would advise building your own brand, community and destination for customers.

  4. CPA

    They Choose a CPA That is Too Low

    Choose suitable products & services that pay at $30-50 per sale.

    If they aren't paying this much is it because they are keeping the bulk of the yield or is it because the product is sold too cheaply?

So What Do Successful Affiliates Do?

Apart from just doing the opposite of the above like finding high demand products that will earn you at least $30 per sale you should also do the following;
  1. Ensure that people can find & purchase the product easier online than by going to phoning or physically going to the store

  2. Embark on a PPC campaign to direct site visitors to your landing page or directly to the merchant's sales page
So forget about all the secret niche stuff and start promoting products that people want and in fact buy all the time - just make sure that you start getting a piece of the action - you could be making money promoting stuff that sells with very simple tactics.
